AT&T’s 2G GSM Sunset

There is an incredibly difficult challenge facing the Machine-to-Machine industry. In August 2012, AT&T announced that they plan to shut down 2G GSM services  by Jan. 1, 2017, in a little over four years from the date of the announcement. This sunset requires replacing an estimated 10 to 14 Million GSM devices on AT&T’s network before the services are removed—and the deadline is now just over three years away! Some companies have started dealing with this sunset replacement requirement, but far too many have yet to address this issue meaningfully.
