ZTE completes 5G test with China Unicom

The 5G trial verified several technologies including massive MIMO, 5G NR, NSA and dual connectivity ZTE and China Unicom have completed a 5G call using ZTE’s 5G prototype smartphone in a Shenzhen 5G field trial, according to the telecom equipment company. The test completed the verification of services including a Wechat group voice call, online video and web browsing, the Chinese vendor said.In Shenzhen, China Unicom is verifying its 5G network equipment’s networking capabilities, special services, roaming and interconnection. The test used ZTE’s 5G end-to-end solution, including radio access network, core network, transport network and intelligent device; the connection was made with ZTE’s 5G prototype smartphone in the field.Meanwhile, the test has verified several 5G key technologies such as massive multiple-input multiple-output, 5G New Radio, Nonstandalone dual-connectivity, FlexE transport technology and 5G Common Core, according to ZTE.ZTE also highlighted that its 5G solution passed the end-to-end test in the three months after the release of the 3GPP Rel-15.Last year, ZTE had unveiled its series of new-generation 5G base stations. The Chinese vendor said that the new generation of 5G high/low frequency AAU supports the 3GPP 5G NR standard and mainstream 5G spectrum used across the telecom industry.ZTE 5G low-frequency AAU has reached a peak throughput of 19 Gbps, in the low-frequency eMBB test scenario during the national 5G tests in China, the vendor said.Earlier this month, ZTE said it completed the third phase of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s IMT-2020 5G core network tests. In a statement, ZTE revealed it has completed the third-phase testing, which involves evaluating the performance of the network function virtualization infrastructure platform, the service performance of the 5G core network element, as well as system capacity and stability.
