Sierra Wireless 5G Modules are the First to be Certified on Deutsche Telekom's 5G Network

Sierra Wireless, a global supplier of IoT solutions, announced today that its EM9190 5G mmWave/Sub-6/LTE New Radio (NR) and EM9191 5G Sub-6/LTE NR embedded modules are the first in Europe to be completely approved to operate on Deutsche Telekom’s 5G public network and campus (private) networks. As a result, customers in Europe will be able to take advantage of the higher data speeds, reduced latency, and capacity of 5G due to this accreditation from one of the world’s top integrated telecommunications companies.

Customers using the EM9190 and EM9191 can now commercially deploy networking devices, computing devices, and other connected products on Deutsche Telekom’s high-speed, low-latency 5G network for industrial applications, live video streaming, video security, high-definition cloud-based video gaming, extended reality (XR), robotics, and other next-generation IoT applications.

5G is transforming IoT.

The higher data speeds, lower latency, and higher device capacity of 5G are poised to transform the IoT market, allowing OEMs, advanced electronic, and other industrial companies to support enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable, low-latency communication, and massive machine-type communication use cases that were not possible before 5G.

Because of 5G’s capacity to serve these new use cases, McKinsey and Company said in a recent report, “As new use cases gain traction, it is anticipated that B2B 5G IoT unit sales will rocket... As a result, we expect total revenue for 5G IoT modules to grow from about USD 180 million in 2022 to almost USD 10 billion by 2030 in the B2B sphere.”

Modules for Easy Integration, Private Networks, and Global Connectivity

The EM9190 and EM9191 modules, based on the industry-standard M.2 form factor, are industrial-grade modules that allow OEMs, system integrators, and other businesses to incorporate secure 5G connections into their products quickly.

The EM9190 and EM9191 also include an embedded SIM (eSIM) based on the GSMA’s eUICC embedded SIM standard. This eSIM enables customers to switch networks at any moment using carrier-specific profiles, increasing the ease and flexibility of IoT device deployment.

The modules, which are part of Sierra Wireless’ EM Series, are intended to connect to 5G networks worldwide and have already been approved by 5G mobile network operators in North America and other worldwide areas.

Sierra Wireless’ global network of partners now offers the EM9190 and EM9191 modules.
