OneLayer Steps Out of Stealth with $8.2M Seed Round to Protect Private 5G Networks

OneLayer | March 15, 2022

OneLayer_Steps_Out
OneLayer, a pioneer in securing private LTE/5G networks for enterprises, announced today its launch out of stealth along with an $8.2 million seed funding round led by Grove Ventures and Viola Ventures. Additional investments were made by angel investors from leading cyber and cloud companies, including Avi Shua, founder and CEO of Orca Security, Ariel Zeitlin, founder of Guardicore, Gonen Fink, Head of Palo Alto Networks Israel R&D Center and the founders of Epsagon, Nitzan Shapira, CEO and Ran Ribenzaft, CTO, among others. OneLayer will use the funds to build its product suite for the desired enterprise-grade security and deploy it for customers internationally. Additionally, the company will create a cyber risk assessment and validation lab based on private LTE and 5G technology in collaboration with tier 1 players.

For enterprises, the establishment of private LTE/5G networks enables a true connectivity revolution, providing significant benefits such as a jump in connectivity reliability, a dedicated bandwidth with capacity and range and connectivity of IoT devices across vast areas. Over the last several years, increasing numbers of enterprises have begun implementing private LTE/5G networks, a number that is expected to increase significantly over the upcoming years. Security for these networks, however, has lagged significantly behind. While traditional enterprise security tools have evolved over the last decade to achieve their desired standard, most of those tools are not applicable to the cellular domain as they tend to overlook the changes and advancement of the relevant standards and protocols that different cellular networks demand.

OneLayer was built to provide organizations with enterprise-grade security on par with the standards of protection that IT and OT networks have access to, but without requiring them to become cellular experts. The company's technology enables network administrators to limit device exposure to those registered on the network by exploring and listing the enterprise domain's existing security tools, integrating them with the enterprise's authorization, authentication and accounting tools (AAA) and extending their capabilities to the organization's cellular domain. By doing so, OneLayer provides a simple, LAN-like way to control their private 5G networks.

OneLayer combines our deep knowledge of both cybersecurity and cellular technology and was formed with the mission to help enterprise companies close a significant vulnerability in their networks. Our solution efficiently and effectively addresses the unique challenges facing cellular security for enterprises, giving our customers the ability to build expansive private networks with the highest levels of security tailored for their specific needs and, and beyond the current standards and capabilities of IT and OT networks."

Dave Mor, co-founder and CEO of OneLayer.

"Until the advent of private LTE/5G networks, enterprise security and cellular security have existed in parallel, but different, orbits," said Renana Ashkenazi, General Partner at Grove Ventures. "That reality is now changed and it demands a new solution. OneLayer is taking on an incredible challenge in addressing this gap in enterprise and cellular security and is building a solution for a very large addressable market. By approaching security challenges from a cyber perspective as well as with the team's collective cellular expertise, OneLayer delivers a solution that will protect organizations from attacks while allowing them to operate within their LTE/5G networks. OneLayer is giving organizations the ability to safely leverage the benefits of a private 5G cellular network."

"We strongly believe that the emergence of private cellular networks will play a major role in the future of wireless technologies for enterprise connectivity," said Zvika Orron, General Partner, Viola Ventures. "Along with providing enterprise companies the flexibility and control to design networks best suited to their specific business needs, private cellular networks also shift the responsibility for protecting those networks to the enterprises themselves. This requires a unique security solution to address the new attack surfaces, which is what makes us so excited to partner with OneLayer. The company is addressing a growing market while approaching the challenge with a deep understanding of both the cybersecurity and cellular industries, perfectly positioning it as a partner for enterprise companies building private networks."

Edgecore Networks Rolls Out the World’s First Open and Interoperable Hospitality Solution Based on TIP OpenWiFi

Edgecore Networks | June 24, 2022

Edgecore Networks, a leading provider of traditional and open network solutions for enterprises, data centers, and telecommunication service providers, today announces the launch of the world's first full-stack OpenWiFi hospitality solution for ISP and MSP customers, leading the way forward ushering in collaboratively created OpenWiFi business model for hotels. Edgecore’s Open and Interoperable Hospitality Solution is led by ecCLOUD™, one of the first TIP OpenWiFi 2.0 based enterprise controller that can manage hundreds of thousands of Wi-Fi Access points (APs) from both Edgecore as well as any other hardware vendor with compatible OpenWiFi software. In addition, Edgecore’s EAP104, the world's first open hospitality and multi-dwelling units (MDU) dedicated Wi-Fi AP, not only works with Edgecore’s ecCLOUD but also with any TIP OpenWiFi compatible controller. The agility to provide network management and application services in a rapidly changing and demanding environment is crucial for success in the hospitality and MDU markets. However, existing proprietary network infrastructures hinder the development of innovative application services and hold back effective cost control. In view of this, Edgecore has actively led the way adopting the Telecom Infra Project’s (TIP) OpenWiFi to unlock limitations and create an OpenWiFi compatible infrastructure with commercial expansion value, rewriting the nature of hospitality Wi-Fi networks. ISPs and MSPs are now no longer bound by a single vendor but can flexibly choose mixing and matching from different cloud controllers, Wi-Fi APs, and switches. And, by using an open API to rapidly develop application services, whether they are self-developed or in cooperation with third-party partners, the time for launching new services and new applications is greatly shortened. All of this significantly reduces capital expenditure and operating costs and reduce TCO by up to 50%. Chris Busch, TIP Open Converged Wireless Co-Chair said: “TIP has been dedicated to reinforcing the global OpenWiFi ecosystem by working closely with Wi-Fi industry leaders. Edgecore’s expertise in cloud controllers has made the OpenWiFi 2.x stack accessible and practical, and unleashed countless innovation possibilities for ISPs and MSPs. We believe this is a highly scalable and efficient solution for hospitality providers worldwide” Edgecore’s ecCLOUD and Wi-Fi AP both use the latest version of TIP OpenWiFi 2.0, released for commercial use. TIP OpenWiFi 2.0 utilizes uCentral, a lightweight agile communications framework that can dramatically cut cloud hosting costs. In addition, TIP OpenWiFi’s open architecture enables Edgecore to work with application service providers to develop services including Smart Indoor Location Solution, network quality of experience (QoE), network security and other services. The Smart Indoor Location Solution is now available for trial use, and the world's first hospitality- and MDU-dedicated TIP OpenWiFi AP, EAP104, will be available for test appointments from now on, being officially launched in Q3 2022. To accelerate development of TIP OpenWiFi based innovative ecosystem applications, Edgecore also provides a TIP OpenWiFi Facilitating Program, for free. As part of the program users can perform remote TIP OpenWiFi testing through ecCLOUD without the need of downloading the CloudSDK, accelerating the creation of their own TIP OpenWiFi based solutions. “Edgecore’s full-stack OpenWiFi hospitality solution unbinds ISPs and MSPs from closed network infrastructures and introduces unlimited innovation possibilities and business potential. As one of the earliest and active TIP OpenWiFi partners, Edgecore Networks will keep working with TIP to grow the OpenWiFi ecosystem together globally.” Tengtai Hsu, Vice President of Edgecore Networks About Edgecore Networks Edgecore Networks Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Accton Technology Corporation, the leading networking ODM. Edgecore Networks delivers wired and wireless networking products and solutions through channel partners and system integrators worldwide for data center, service provider, enterprise, and SMB customers. Edgecore Networks is the leader in open networking, providing a full line of open 1G-400G Ethernet OCP Accepted™ switches, core routers, cell site gateways, virtual PON OLTs, optical packet transponders, and Wi-Fi access points that offer choice of commercial and open source NOS and SDN software. About the Telecom Infra Project The Telecom Infra Project (TIP) is a global community of companies and organizations that are driving infrastructure solutions to advance global connectivity. Half of the world’s population is still not connected to the internet, and for those who are, connectivity is often insufficient. This limits access to the multitude of consumer and commercial benefits provided by the internet, thereby impacting GDP growth globally. However, a lack of flexibility in the current solutions - exacerbated by a limited choice in technology providers - makes it challenging for operators to efficiently build and upgrade networks. Founded in 2016, TIP is a community of diverse members that includes hundreds of companies - from service providers and technology partners, to systems integrators and other connectivity stakeholders. We are working together to develop, test and deploy open, disaggregated, and standards-based solutions that deliver the high quality connectivity that the world needs - now and in the decades to come.

Ayla Networks Announces Support for Smart Home Device Developers Adopting the Matter Standard

Ayla Networks | July 29, 2022

Ayla Networks, whose Internet of Things (IoT) platform rapidly transforms any device into a smart, connected product, today announced support for smart home manufacturers and retailers that intend to adopt the Matter standard, the new connectivity protocol to be released later this year. Until now, interconnectivity among smart home devices has been complex. Matter solves that problem with a standard that ensures seamless and secure connectivity with all Matter-compliant devices within the home. “Matter essentially levels the playing field for seamless interconnectivity of smart home devices, so it’s time for manufacturers to rethink their value propositions and provide products that focus on the user experience,” “As a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance leading the initiative, Ayla is ready now to support customers moving to Matter.” Jonathan Cobb, CEO of Ayla Networks Ayla also makes it easier for smart home device manufacturers to connect their devices locally and to the cloud, thanks to its partnership with Espressif in which Espressif is offering the option of Ayla software on its Matter-compliant chipsets and modules. Ayla IoT Platform Provides Distinctive Customer Value Device manufacturers, smart home platforms, and retailers want to preserve the day-to-day metrics of their devices and maintain a relationship with their customers. However, connectivity standardization could lead to overly simplistic functionality, driven by third-party apps and ecosystems. To avoid this outcome, Ayla provides developers and retailers with apps, tools and metrics to enable them to perform data analytics on the data generated by their connected devices, so they can better understand their smart home products’ usage and performance to enhance their value to users. “Ayla ensures that you have an excellent, branded user experience as a hedge against customers leaving your ecosystem,” said Cobb. “As IoT platform experts, we’ll not only help integrate your products into the Matter standard, we’ll also future-proof your solution as standards and use cases evolve.” Going Beyond the Standard Matter is a significant initiative for device compatibility, but Matter does not encompass the entire smart home solution. That is why Ayla provides manufacturers and retailers a comprehensive Matter-compliant platform that includes functionality not addressed by the Matter standard. This includes features such as cloud access, device management, user management, device schedules, support for non-Matter devices, data analytics and a proven 5-star user app. Manufacturers Rely on Ayla Since its founding in 2010, Ayla has been the IoT platform behind connected products from leading consumer brands, including SharkNinja, Owlet, Canadian Tire, Kenmore, Hunter Fan, Fujitsu and Schneider Electric.
