MetaLINK and Tarana Upgrade Networks in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana

On February 23, 2023, MetaLINK, a renowned internet service provider (ISP) in the Midwest, and Tarana, the creator of the award-winning Gigabit 1 (G1) broadband solution, announced network upgrades to bring high-speed internet across 23 counties in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.

MetaLINK is a locally owned and operated ISP ranked as one of the top 25 independent ISPs in the United States. The company offers fiber and wireless data-cap-free internet service plans, phone services, and others to homes and businesses in Ohio.

Tarana pioneered next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) technology. Designed to deliver fiber-class broadband at unmatched network economics, the G1 ngFWA platform is bridging the digital divide in eight countries. In addition, it is rapidly bringing connectivity to unserved and underserved communities.

MetaLINK learned about Tarana G1 while looking for a connectivity solution to improve internet access in areas where fiber could not be cost-effectively deployed. The G1 solution, known to deliver fiber-like speeds, was pilot tested by MetaLINK in spring 2022.

The initial result of download speeds of up to 600 Mbps LoS conditions in a 6-mile radius from the tower, and 100 MBPS in NLoS conditions at 8 miles, was a 5-6x improvement over what MetaLINK could previously achieve. It also enabled reliable connectivity despite vegetation and hill cover.

Last November, MetaLINK's first G1 network went live in Putnam County, Ohio, thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds granted to bring high-speed broadband to communities in Putnam County. Williams County, Ohio, is next in line, with MetaLINK projected to improve connection speeds from 1-3 MBPS through DSL to 200 Mbps with the G1 solution.
