Lighting the Path to 5G: Viavi Breaks The Speed and Size Barrier with Industry-First 10 GbE Ethernet Microprobe

Milpitas, Calif., February 18, 2016 – Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) today introduced the industry’s first 10 GbE Ethernet Microprobe, including a 10-fold increase in capacity with embedded application-aware intelligence in the familiar enhanced small form-factor pluggable (SFP+) size. With the higher capacity, elimination of the need for a separate intelligence solution, and integration into Viavi’s cloud-based PacketPortal Ethernet monitoring platform, operators now have unprecedented capabilities for visibility into traffic behavior in the network. Viavi will be demonstrating the 10 GbE Microprobe at Mobile World Congress, Hall 6, Booth 6I37, February 22-25.Mobile networks worldwide may be at different stages of development between 3G and 5G, but are following a common path involving network function virtualization (NFV) and capacity increases at all layers to support ever-surging traffic. 100 Gpbs backbones are emerging now, and with them the aggregation layers are advancing to 10 Gbps. Until today, SFP+ Ethernet probes have been limited to 1 Gbps, creating a gap in visibility at higher speeds that creates one of three challenges for operators: blindness to traffic behavior; reliance on a complex system of probes distributed at lower layers; or multi-box solutions at points of aggregation.
