Ligado Selects Mavenir to Develop 5G Open RAN Compliant Solution

Ligado Networks and Mavenir announced a partnership today. Mavenir will develop O-RAN compliant remote radio devices, and cloud-native Open RAN software compatible with Ligado's L-Band spectrum.

Ligado has received clearance from 3GPP, the wireless industry's standards organization, for new technical requirements that would allow its L-band spectrum to be used in 5G networks. These approvals enable manufacturers to develop 5G and LTE devices compatible with Ligado's mid-band spectrum and demonstrate Ligado's intentions to make additional mid-band spectrum accessible to the U.S. market.

Ligado is creating a 5G Mobile Private Network Solution as part of this endeavor, intending to bring the potential of next-generation networks to the energy, industrial, health care, transportation, and other critical infrastructure sectors. In addition, with U.S. businesses increasingly demanding a connectivity solution that can be tailored to individual needs, Ligado is developing a product solution that will leverage its dedicated, licensed spectrum to provide enterprise customers with the scale of a public network while also providing the reliability, security, and customization of a private network.

Mavenir, the industry's only end-to-end network software provider, is a leader in delivering Open RAN solutions that are O-RAN/3GPP compatible. The firm announced a strong business unit in December to build the Open RAN remote radio unit ecosystem.
