Indian arm is steering wheel as Verizon deploys 5G in US

Verizon India, a subsidiary of the Nasdaq-listed Verizon Wireless, is playing a key role in testing and deploying its latest 5G technology in the United States, the company’s top country executive told ET, adding that the India team has been providing technical support to launch Verizon’s 5G wireless network there. “When the first order was taken by the customer, the team from here was supporting that,” said Kalyani Sekar, managing director of Verizon India. “On products, there may not be much contribution because it involves network and we really need to experiment on networks.” She said there was a huge contribution from India for operations support systems (OSS) and business support systems (BSS). In network terminology, OSS is a software component that allows a service provider to manage services on its network. BSS supports customer activities such as ordering and billing. “Whatever can be simulated, maybe that is being supported from India, (but) on the network part there is a lot of work that the team is doing,” she said.
