Verizon Business will demonstrate the transformative benefits of its business solutions at the next installment of its 5G Innovation Sessions series, occurring at the Edge, Hudson Yards, on November 8. Executives from Verizon, Nokia, the National Hockey League (NHL), and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will demonstrate a range of forward-looking scenarios that leverage the power of Verizon 5G and Mobile Edge Compute, including real-time container tracking, collaboration robots, video scene analytics monitoring manufacturing assembly, real-time crowd analytics, and interactive cityscapes. Verizon’s Commitment to New York City
Verizon invested nearly $4.6 billion dollars in the state of New York in 2021. That investment resulted in new macro cell sites, small cell sites and cellular repeaters which added coverage and capacity to the network and is helping to manage the ever-increasing data usage from NY customers. That capital investment along with Verizon’s 2022 investment fueled the deployment of 5G Ultra Wideband across NY including in Long Island, NYC, Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and the greater Buffalo area. Verizon's 5G service also enhances the customer experience in sports and entertainment venues in NY including CitiField, MSG, the Bills Stadium, The National Tennis Center and many more. In addition to deploying 5G Ultra Wideband, network investment was used to increase capacity and coverage on Verizon’s 4G network which will continue to support customers’ use long into the future. Additionally, Verizon's investment fueled growth of FIOS service in all five boroughs in NYC, Long Island and in Upstate NY, and led to increased 2 gigabit upload and download speeds for customers in NYC.
Over the last decade, working through nonprofit partners and a suite of programs and resources, Verizon Innovative Learning has committed $1 billion in market value to support digital equity and inclusion within education for some of the most vulnerable populations across the country. The initiative is celebrating 10 years of providing free technology, internet access and resources to schools and educators across America, including Title I schools.
In New York City, over 26,000 students have been reached across 29 schools through the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools program. This academic year, the program has welcomed over 3,500 new students in the NYC Department of Education school district.

Supporting first responders who serve New York
During 2021, the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team deployed multiple times in support of public safety agencies in New York to provide mission-critical communications capabilities to the first responders on the front lines of emergency response operations. Verizon Frontline devices and solutions ranging from mobile hotspots, routers, smart devices and drones, to deployable satellite solutions, such as Satellite Picocells on Trailers (SPOTs), were deployed in support of New York first responders.
This support has continued during 2022, as the Verizon Frontline Crisis Response Team has already participated in several public safety operations and training events alongside New York public safety agencies. Senet, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based software and services platforms that enable global connectivity and on-demand network build-outs for the Internet of Things (IoT) and LimnoTech, an environmental science and engineering firm, today announced a partnership to deploy a public LoRaWAN® network across the Great Lakes region of the United States, providing connectivity across area wetlands, parks, coastlines, rural and urban areas, and open waters. The effort is part of a broader rollout of the Cleveland Water Alliance (CWA) Smart Lake Erie Watershed initiative, a state and federally funded program to increase the region’s ability to monitor and manage area waterways and provide opportunities for area businesses, cities, and universities to accelerate water technology development.
LimnoTech, and its new subsidiary Freeboard Technology, has partnered with Senet to deploy and manage the network using Senet’s Radio Access Network (RAN) Provider Services, which provide a full suite of tools for network and site planning, gateway procurement and deployment, and RAN management through Senet’s cloud-based RAN Provider Portal. LimnoTech will also be participating in Senet’s patented Low Power Wide Area Virtual Network (LVN™), contributing to the unified carrier-grade LoRaWAN connectivity service managed by Senet across the United States.
Using Senet’s RAN planning tools, LimnoTech identified ideal locations for gateway placement. The network buildout started in August 2022 with LimnoTech deploying gateways on a tower, at the University of Toledo’s Lake Erie Center, on buildings at Case Western Reserve University’s Cleveland Campus, on the William Mather ship docked at the Great Lakes Science Center, and atop the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building in downtown Cleveland. Additional gateway deployments are planned along the Ohio shoreline and other key inland and urban areas across Northern Ohio.
The first uses of the network include transmitting data from specialized buoys that monitor water conditions offshore for the City of Cleveland Water Department near its water intakes. Additional water-focused uses of the network that can take advantage of this new regional network include tracking toxic algal blooms, chemical spills, urban flooding, and other applications that require dozens to hundreds of sensors to monitor environmental conditions.

Global network intelligence and connectivity insights leader, Ookla has named Xfinity the fastest Internet provider in Illinois. The recently published Speedtest Global Index rankings, based upon consumer testing of Internet services in the United States in Q2 2022 through Ookla’s speed test website, showed Xfinity coming out on top in 12 states across the country, more than any other provider by a wide margin.
Xfinity’s median consumer tested download speeds of 184 megabits per second (Mbps) across Illinois were faster than competitor’s consumer speeds. Ookla’s report provides a real-time view into the Internet speeds that consumers are actually experiencing based on the service tiers they select.
