AT&T’s low-band 5G now live in 13 more cities including Boston, St. Louis, Atlantic City, Dayton, and Wichita

AT&T has added 13 more cities to its low-band 5G network, including large metro areas like Boston, St. Louis, and Atlantic City, and smaller cities like Wichita, Kansas and Dayton, Ohio, bringing the total number of cities on the list to 32. The carrier continues to expand its sub-6GHz network, which has broad range but slower speeds than the mmWave version of its 5G, which thus far AT&T has limited to business customers. According to AT&T, 50 million customers now have access to its 5G network, and it’s on pace to expand to the rest of the country in the first half of 2020. Its 5G+ mmWave version is live in parts of more 35 cities so far, but it has its limitations — it doesn’t pass through buildings well. (AT&T still has yet to make that portion of its network widely available, though.)

Keysight collaborated with leading vendors and mobile operators on industry first demonstrations in key areas of innovation including: Evaluation and assessment of energy savings features using live networks traffic profiles which have shown significant reduction in energy consumption for a multi-vendors cloud-native O-RAN system. Keysight’s power analyzer (PA2203A IntegraVision) performed precise real-time measurements of the power consumption throughout the tests. The company’s Performance Benchmarking Solution (PBM) characterized the O-RAN system’s energy consumption/savings profiles and performed closed loop optimization of power savings parameters used in the O-RAN system modelled after energy savings rApps. O-RAN Radio Unit (O-RU) – Keysight’s O-RAN O-RU test solution consisting of the company’s O-DU emulation (Open RAN Studio), radio frequency (RF) signal sources and analyzers (UXA signal analyzer, VXG signal generator), and test automation framework (PathWave Test Automation) provided pre-certification testing of the O-RUs including validation of 3GPP and O-RAN conformance and performance of the open fronthaul control, user, synchronization and management planes implementation across RF and protocol measurement domains.
