Angola Cables Enhances MONET Submarine Cable Network Capacity with Ciena

Angola Cables, a global supplier of telecommunications and digital solutions, has upgraded its MONET submarine cable network with Ciena's GeoMesh, fuelled by WaveLogic Ai coherent optical technology, to provide more capacity and lower latency to meet surging digital demands.

Angola Cables' MONET submarine cable network, South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), and West Africa Cable System link North America, South America, Africa, and Europe (WACS). Angola Cables added 2.2 Tbps of capacity to sections of the MONET network connecting Miami, Fortaleza, and So Paulo using Ciena's GeoMesh to improve the efficiency of bandwidth-intensive cloud-based services. This direct, low-latency connection between Angola Cables' So Paulo, Miami, and the new Fortaleza data center (AngoNAP) boosts regional growth for companies that use the network.

“In an era of accelerated, mass digital adoption, the network must be able to meet the ever-increasing demands of end-users. “ With Ciena's GeoMesh solution, we were able to extend our submarine cable network and meet a broader spectrum of customers with more bandwidth and better services,” said Angelo Gama, Chief Executive Officer of Angola Cables.

Angola Cables is now using Ciena's GeoMesh between So Paulo and Miami to optically bypass cable landing stations, resulting in reduced power, space, and organizational difficulty. Angola Cables also uses Ciena's Manage, Control, and Plan (MCP) domain controller, which collects real-time telemetry from submarine cables to improve network visibility and monitoring.

“There has been incredible growth in the usage of cloud-based services, which put tremendous amounts of pressure on the network due to rigorous efficiency criteria. “With Ciena's GeoMesh submarine network solution, Angola Cables has adapted its network to meet these demands and provide high-performance access, both overland and undersea, to more end-users around the world,” said Ian Clarke, Ciena's Vice President of Global Submarine Solutions.
