On March 13, 2023, Adtran, Inc., a leading open and disaggregated networking solutions provider, and Satelles, Inc., a company specializing in secure location and time technology using low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites, announced a strategic partnership. Satellite Time and Location (STL) technology, powered by this collaboration, will enable critical infrastructure operators to protect their timing networks.

By combining Satelles' STL with its Oscilloquartz network synchronization products, Adtran will be able to offer a GNSS systems alternative or a means of enhancing their reliability and security. STL is an indispensable resource for scientific research, power utility companies, mobile operators, the government, and more, as it can provide highly precise PNT service even in GNSS-denied applications.

STL provides a secure and augmented backup for GPS and other GNSS using encrypted LEO satellite signals. It ensures that timing and location data are highly accurate, robustly protected, and globally accessible. STL is practically impervious to cyberattacks and less susceptible to GNSS vulnerabilities like signal manipulation and disruption.

Since STL signals are nearly 1,000 times more powerful than GNSS signals, they can easily pass through buildings and other difficult-to-reach locations. In addition to integrating STL into its grandmaster clocks, Adtran's Oscilloquartz division will build miniature M.2 form factor STL receiver modules to integrate into third-party products.
