OPNFV – No Time to Wait: Accelerating NFV Time to Market Through Open Source Integration

Open Platform for NFV (OPNFV) is a carrier-grade, integrated, open source platform to accelerate the introduction of new NFV products and services, ensure the industry’s NFV needs are being met, and enable end user choice in specific technology components based on their use cases and deployment architectures. OPNFV has just announced its first release – Arno! Named after a picturesque river in Italy, Arno represents the first of many river-themed code releases to build on the promise of OPNFV—a carrier-grade, integrated, open source platform to accelerate the introduction of new NFV products and services. Arno is aimed at anyone who is exploring NFV deployments, developing Virtual Network Functions (VNF) applications, or interested in NFV performance and use case-based testing. This developer-focused release provides an initial build of the NFV Infrastructure (NFVI) and Virtual Infrastructure Manager (VIM) components of ETSI NFV architecture. Arno enables continuous integration, automated deployment and testing of components from upstream projects such as OpenDaylight, OpenStack, Open vSwitch and KVM. It allows developers and users to automatically install and explore the platform. Read the Arno blog post, visit the downloads page to access the ISO images along with documentation or learn more on the OPNFV Wiki.

A new approach to fiber testing to keep you on top of your network infrastructure

EXFO

Several challenges stand on the path to 5G. Staffing issues, keeping budgets under control, faster deployments, cumbersome testing processes are just a few examples. The high density of fiber rollouts means relying on a lot of outsourcing, which can reduce visibility and control over the fiber infrastructure. At the same time, thorough knowledge of the network is key to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) delivered to subscribers, to accurately budget and plan for upcoming network transformations.
