FCC Vows 5G Networks Will Be A Private Sector Project

In case anyone was unclear, Ajit Pai wants you to know that the government isn't planning to take over the wireless sector. Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, has penned an op-ed describing his plan to facilitate the launch of hyper-fast, fifth-generation wireless service, or 5G.
The recipe for U.S. leadership in wireless technology is proven and simple: Free up airwaves to accommodate the increase in wireless traffic. Get rid of the red tape that slows the deployment of wireless infrastructure. Provide targeted investments in a fiscally responsible way to extend coverage to areas where there isn't business case to build. And then get government out of the way as much as possible." Those comments echo the message coming out of the White House earlier this month, when Pai joined President Trump at an event announcing the FCC's plan for laying the groundwork for 5G wireless networks. At that event, Trump declared: "In the United States, our approach is private sector driven and private sector led."
