Vislink Showcases Innovative 5G & Cloud-Based Wireless Solutions

Vislink, a worldwide leader in the capture, distribution, and management of high quality, live video and data in the media & entertainment, law enforcement, and military industries, presented private network 5G technology during a sports event in the UK to illustrate its potential in broadcast. Vislink and Mobile Viewpoint's adoption heralds a revolution in remote production processes by extending bi-directional IP connections to the edge and allowing virtualized production in the cloud. Vislink's breakthroughs were on display at the Gallagher Premiership Rugby match between Saracens and the Northampton Saints at StoneX Stadium in London, where it backed a BT-led project to highlight the potential for 5G in broadcast contributions by connecting matchday cameras to a standalone private 5G network. In a UK first, this cameras' feed was included in BT Sport's live broadcasts of the match, a first for a customer broadcast. BT Media & Broadcast, BT Sport, Broadcast RF, and Neutral Wireless headed the project. Vislink installed private network 5G transmitters with COFDM technology to illustrate how 5G technology is growing to offer assured quality, low latency video from wireless cameras to give spectators realistic up-close camera views of the athletic event. Mobile Viewpoint's 5G-enabled encoders send camera feeds to the cloud across a secure, low-latency 5G private network and IP LAN. The director can pick camera feeds for the program stream fully in the cloud, utilizing BT Sport's virtualized production process. This cloud-based installation illustrates Mobile Viewpoint's capacity to bring new cost and operating advantages for distant manufacturing operations. Vislink's long-standing expertise in COFDM-based wireless technologies was bolstered last year with the inclusion of Mobile Viewpoint 5G technology capabilities. Vislink now has a best-of-breed portfolio of resilient and efficient solutions for a broad range of deployment situations thanks to the integration of these technologies. Following on from the world's first stand-alone private 5G network for sports broadcasting during the British MotoGP 2021 Grand Prix, this current public demonstration signals another step forward in the company's 5G wireless technology leadership. Vislink and Mobile Viewpoint showed the world's first glass-to-glass All-IP wireless and virtualized manufacturing during this experiment, which was arranged by BT Sport and BT Media & Broadcast. DISH's 5G Wireless Network is Available to Over 20% U.S. Population

As of June 14, DISH is providing 5G broadband service to more than 20% of the US population. As DISH continues to redefine the way the world communicates, this represents a significant milestone in the development of the world's most powerful cloud-native 5G Open RAN network. "This is a big moment for DISH as we connect customers across the country with America's first and only cloud-native Open RAN network. This milestone was achieved through the collaboration, ingenuity and hard work of the DISH team and our numerous partners, including AWS, Cisco, CommScope, Dell, Fujitsu, Intel, JMA, Mavenir, Nokia, Oracle, Palo Alto, Qualcomm, Samsung and VMware. We're the only major network in the world built primarily with American vendors." Dave Mayo, executive vice president of network development, DISH Wireless DISH's Smart 5G network was debuted in May through Project Genesis, providing DISH wireless service in Las Vegas. DISH has now extended its service to more than 120 locations throughout the nation. Anyone in an eligible area can access Project Genesis. The Project Genesis phone and data services on the Samsung Galaxy S22 use the DISH Smart 5G network while also connecting to our partner network, a first in the United States. The Galaxy S22, which is supported by a network of networks, automatically transitions between networks, providing DISH users with phone and data services from numerous networks at any place and at any time. This solution employs eSIM and multi-SIM technologies. John Swieringa, president and chief operating officer, DISH Wireless said that, "This is an important step forward in our work to connect Americans to our Smart 5G™ network, but it's only the beginning. We continue to focus on building out more coverage and bringing innovative 5G services and solutions to our customers." DISH will extend VoNR capability to more markets as it enhances the VoNR experience after becoming the first service provider to offer voice over new radio (VoNR) in the United States through Edge+ in Las Vegas this past May. DISH's 5G broadband service is 3GPP Release 15 enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB) compatible and is delivered through DISH's 5G core. DISH's AWS-4, Lower 700 MHz E Block, and AWS H Block spectrum are used to provide 20% coverage. DISH will submit its FCC buildout report by July 14, 2022.

UScellular and Ericsson Team Up on Drone Connectivity

UScellular and Ericsson revealed today that they have commenced altitude 5G testing utilizing drone technology. These are the first of their type using UScellular's 5G network, and they pave the way for future use cases of cellular-connected drones in a range of sectors. Initial visible line of sight experiments were carried out in Beloit, Wisconsin, with a drone flying between two of UScellular's commercial 5G towers. All throughout flights at various altitudes, the drone was supplied with a 5G smartphone and RF measuring equipment to gather performance data such as signal strength and quality, upload and download rates, and latency. The original trial's purpose was to capture and evaluate network connectivity and speed data in the air, compare it to the speeds observed on the ground, and eventually establish what is necessary for the future use and success of 5G connected drones. "Testing our wireless connections at altitude can set the stage for future connectivity of drones in the air, providing command and control capability along with enabling real-time image and data sharing to be easier, faster and safer. We believe that our network can help drones fly in an optimal way if they have connectivity, and with Ericsson's support, we will continue to drive innovation that can help enhance our customers' wireless experience," Narothum Saxena, vice president of technology strategy and architecture at UScellular "Drone technology offers a wide scope of new opportunities in today's market.
