Sierra Wireless’ EM9190 5G Module Rapidly Integrated by Mobile Viewpoint into Its New Mobile Video Encoder

Sierra Wireless, a leading supplier of IoT solutions, announced today that its EM9190 5G New Radio (NR) embedded module is integrated into Mobile Viewpoint's new Agile Ultra 5G mobile encoder. As a result, mobile Viewpoint is one of the first businesses to commercialize a 5G mobile encoder to remotely transmit live 4K Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) video from sports, news, and other external events.

In addition to the EM9190 module, Sierra Wireless and its partner, Alcom electronics, provided Mobile Viewpoint with the 5G expertise, technical support, and global Mobile Network Operators (MNO) relationships required to quickly integrate the EM9190 module into their encoder and get the encoder certified by MNOs worldwide.

The Agile Ultra 5G mobile encoder, powered by the EM9190, allows broadcasters, video production firms, first responders, and security agencies to remotely control live 4K UHD video production from a central location without sacrificing video reliability or quality. This enables them to avoid sending production personnel and Outside Broadcast (OB) vehicles on-site to events, emergencies, or other places, lowering their video production expenses significantly.

CP Communications, a supplier of live event production solutions based in St Petersburg, Florida, collaborated with Mobile Viewpoint to test their Agile Ultra 5G mobile encoder in the United States. Kurt Heitmann, CEO of CP Communications, believes that 5G will accelerate the broadcasting industry's usage of cellular networks for remote video production at live events.

The EM9190 is now available globally from Sierra Wireless' global network of partners.
