Keysight Enables Samsung to Establish 5G Data Call Based on 3GPP Release 16 Specifications

Keysight Technologies, Inc., a reputed technology company delivering advanced design and validation solutions to assist accelerate innovation to connect and safeguard the world, announced that Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business had chosen the company’s 5G test platforms to establish a 5G data call based on 3GPP Release 16 (Rel-1) specifications.

Samsung chose Keysight’s 5G network emulation technologies to successfully demonstrate a data link for the 5G new radio (NR) standard based on 3GPP Rel-16 requirements. Rel-16, which will be completed in 2020, delivers several improvements to 5G NR installations, resulting in enhanced spectrum usage, lower network latencies, and increased connection dependability. Such advancements are crucial for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications in industrial automation, self-driving cars, and greater operational efficiencies for service providers.

“We are delighted to support Samsung’s strategic 5G technology goals with integrated software-based chipset and device test solutions for validating new designs following the most recent 3GPP specifications across the protocol stack,” said Cao Peng, vice president, and general manager of Keysight’s wireless test group. “Keysight is dedicated to providing test platforms that speed the commercial deployment of 5G devices and networks to 5G pioneers like Samsung.”

Samsung validated the modem maker’s Exynos Modem chipset using Keysight’s 5G Protocol R&D Toolset and Test Application software, which many global device makers utilize to bring 5G devices to market. Samsung may use the toolset to execute 3GPP Rel-16 physical player interoperability development testing (IODT), verify power-saving IODT performance, and validate new radio to new radio dual connectivity (NRDC) capability in both the sub-7GHz (FR1) and mmWave (FR2) spectrum.

“We are excited to collaborate with key collaborators like Keysight, whose test tools have been validated across a global ecosystem of device makers to verify new designs confidently,” said Jonghan Kim, vice president of System LSI protocol development at Samsung Electronics. “We can swiftly design commercially effective 5G solutions that deliver new and thrilling mobile experiences using Keysight’s wide range of 5G test tools.”

Keysight and Samsung have collaborated for over ten years and have accomplished significant joint milestones, including the certification of dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) technology utilized in 5G modems.
