Calix Eliminates Costly Barrier To Network Scalability and Security With Simplified Approach for Deploying End-To-End IPv6 Capable Networks

Calix, Inc. revealed today that the Intelligent Access EDGE solution now includes end-to-end Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) support, allowing broadband service providers (BSPs) to avoid the high costs and complexities of extending their networks using IPv4 addresses to satisfy accelerating subscriber demand. Service providers continue to fail to obtain new IPv4 addresses and are often forced to pay hefty prices to do so. The Intelligent Access EDGE eliminates this requirement by promoting IPv6 in the subscriber-facing network, enabling BSPs to focus on growing their businesses first.

BSPs gain the advantage of a network that is both extremely scalable and secure to the subscriber premises with this new opportunity to route IPv6. This major development in the Intelligent Access EDGE's evolution extends the solution's potential to integrate new features into the subscriber-facing network while saving BSPs more than 40% on initial CAPEX and up to 50% on operating costs.

BSPs gain new benefits from the integration of AXOS® and the enhanced E9-2 Intelligent Edge System:

Simple Migrations from IPv4 to IPv6 : Existing IPv4 networks will be used in combination with IPv6, making it easier to migrate to an all-IPv6 network in the future.

Secure Network: The inherent security benefits of IPv6, such as advanced encryption and integrity-checking, improve network security from the access edge to the subscriber premises.

Intelligent, Scalable Routing: Layer 3 routing with IPv6 enables BSPs to extend their networks quickly and cost-effectively to meet subscriber demand.

Ciello, a broadband subsidiary of San Luis Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, wanted to extend the network to reach all of southern Colorado. Ciello decided the E9-2 system was the best option for the update after consulting with the Calix Professional Services Network Consulting team. It would smoothly fit into the company's current network, which was developed with the E7-2 Intelligent Modular System. The rural cooperative realized that to meet its expansion goals, it needed to migrate to higher bandwidth aggregation and 10G PON. Ciello also wanted to improve network security while cutting costs. The approach was to implement a solution that would have significantly more capability, long-term operating savings, and facilitate the company's conversion to IPv6.

With more than 150 BSPs deploying award-winning Intelligent Access EDGE 10G PON solutions in North America, Calix has established itself as the industry leader in 10G PON deployments. BSPs are looking to add capabilities to their access networks as subscriber demands increase, and an increasing number are choosing the E9-2 solution for its ability to simplify network structures while offering improved aggregation capabilities.AXOS provides BSPs with a completely future-proof network due to its unique combination of port density, 40G and 100G uplink capacity, swappable line cards that are quickly upgradeable, and comprehensive, unified management capabilities.
