Benu Networks Shortlisted in Telecom Infra Project’s OpenBNG RFI
Benu Networks, the company transforming the service provider network edge, announced that their SD-Edge platform has been named by the Telecom Infra Project (TIP) to the shortlist for the multi-operator OpenBNG RFI released earlier this year.

The RFI, jointly produced by BT, Deutsche Telekom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, and Vodafone, shortlisted those companies whose solutions met the requirements defined for a next generation Broadband Network Gateway (BNG). The selection was made after an exhaustive and detailed evaluation of the responses to the OpenBNG RFI which contained nearly 2,000 requirements across routing, BNG capabilities, and provider edge MPLS services.

“Benu is extremely proud to have our SD-Edge platform named to the shortlist for such an important initiative by this esteemed group of service providers,It is validation of our efforts to provide network edge technology so service providers can deliver innovative services, improve customer experience, and simultaneously lower total cost of ownership.”

-Ajay Manuja, CEO of Benu Networks

With global demand for bandwidth growing, our fixed networks are more critical than ever,” said Rafael Cantó Palancar, co-chair of the TIP Fixed Broadband Project Group. “Benu Networks brings valuable support and expertise in this domain, and we look forward to working with them on test and validation activities during the next phases of the project.

The OpenBNG initiative, part of the TIP Fixed Broadband (FiBr) Project Group, is a significant example of industry consensus to taking an innovative approach to wireline network infrastructure, which underpins 100% of Internet traffic including the backhaul for 5G mobile connections.

The Benu SD-Edge platform is already broadly deployed across five continents and supports a variety of network functions including Broadband Network Gateway (BNG), Wi-Fi Access Gateway (WAG), Trusted WAG (TWAG), Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) Gateway, and 5G Access Gateway Function (AGF). As part of the TIP selection process, Benu will move into the test and validation phase in the first half of 2022.

AT&T and Google Cloud Expand 5G and Edge Collaboration to Deliver Next-Generation Business Outcomes

AT&T , Google Cloud | July 07, 2021

AT&T and Google Cloud have announced new solutions across the AT&T 5G and Google Cloud edge computing portfolios, including AT&T's on-premises Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) solution and AT&T Network Edge capabilities through LTE, 5G, and wireline. AT&T and Google Cloud have been working on edge solutions for the business for over a year. Now, the two companies are taking the next step toward delivering transformative capabilities that help businesses drive real value and build industry-changing experiences in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, entertainment, and other industries — with the ability to use Google Maps, Android, Pixel, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and other Google solutions for more immersive customer experiences. For example: • Providing video analytics services to assist businesses in a variety of sectors with theft prevention, crowd control, and queue prediction and management. • In retail: this includes streamlining and automating inventory management, as well as connecting brick-and-mortar, e-commerce, and backend systems for near real-time visibility into operations. • In healthcare: expanding access to services such as telehealth-based treatment and utilizing AR and VR for remote care from patients' homes or an onsite facility. • In manufacturing: remote support and quality control inspections at plant sites help speed up processes while optimizing bandwidth consumption by streaming video on edge rather than on-device. • In entertainment: solutions ranging from immersive AR and VR experiences, smart parking, and ticketless entry to contactless food and souvenir purchase, are being used to improve in-venue experiences for concerts and sports events. The companies are also collaborating to see how network APIs could improve applications using near real-time network data at the Google Cloud edge. If they are successful, they will optimize the user experience at the edge and generate meaningful business outcomes. AT&T Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) with Google Cloud combines AT&T's existing 5G and fully managed MEC solution with key Google Cloud features such as Kubernetes, AI, machine learning (ML), data analytics, and a strong edge ISV ecosystem. As a result, enterprises can use the solution to develop and operate modern apps close to their end customers while also managing data on-premises, a customer's data center, or any cloud. All of these can help customers gain more control over their data, enhance security, reduce latency, and increase bandwidth. AT&T Network Edge (ANE) with Google Cloud will enable businesses to deploy applications at Google edge points of presence (POPs) that will be connected to AT&T's 5G and fiber networks. As a result, businesses can deliver quicker, more seamless enterprise and customer experiences in this low-latency computing and storage environment. AT&T and Google Cloud are collaborating on a multi-year plan to deliver the solution to 15+ zones across major cities, beginning this year with Chicago. T‑Mobile Launches World’s First Nationwide Standalone 5G Network

T-Mobile | August 05, 2020

Nothing says “nationwide” coverage like launching your 5G in a town like Lisbon, North Dakota, population of about 2,000. That’s where T-Mobile staged a drone show on Sunday night to let folks know its standalone (SA) version of 5G is available nationwide. To be precise, T-Mobile said its SA deployment expands its 5G footprint to 1.3 million square miles, an expansion of about 30% compared to what it had with NSA by itself, and its 5G is now in more than 7,500 cites and towns across the country. The SA version initially is using its 600 MHz spectrum. “Standalone 5G really is the future of wireless connectivity,” said Karri Kuoppamaki, vice president of Technology Development and Strategy at T-Mobile, who noted that SA is what enables the more transformative 5G capabilities like self-driving vehicles, super-charged IoT and real-time translation.
