Can 5G make you more vulnerable to cyberattacks?

Article | March 15, 2020

Many enterprises and sectors are unaware of the 5G security vulnerabilities that exist today. Choice IoT says it’s critical for businesses to have a plan for discovering and overcoming them at the outset of a 5G/IoT platform rollout to avoid future cybersecurity disasters. There is a big difference between the promise of 5G low latency, higher bandwidth, and speed for businesses versus the security of 5G. While many are excited about Gartner’s prediction of $4.2 billion being invested in global 5G wireless network infrastructure in 2020, few discuss the business costs of its unheralded security holes.

Don’t fall for this coronavirus ‘5G Syndrome’ hoax on Facebook

Article | March 16, 2020

The claim: “Coronavirus Hoax: Fake Virus Pandemic Fabricated to Cover-Up Global Outbreak of 5G Syndrome." — headline on an article being widely shared on Facebook. PolitiFact ruling: False. World experts say the virus originated in an animal — perhaps in a bat that transmitted the virus to another animal, and then to humans. Discussion: Tentacles of lightning illuminate a stormy sky. Three people wear medical face masks, worry visible in their eyes. Next to those two images is one more that reads simply "5G" — a reference to the fifth-generation of wireless networking technology. The post was flagged as part of Facebook’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed.

Don’t worry, 5G is entirely safe say international radiation experts

Article | March 16, 2020

Yes, 5G is here and it’s making internet speeds faster and more reliable around the world. It’s also causing a few people to panic about radiation levels. And whether it causes the coronavirus, but that’s another story. Thankfully, the international regulator for radiation levels has given it the all-clear. The International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) is a Germany-based scientific body assessing health risks of radio broadcasts. It has called for new guidelines on 5G but says that the even the most high-frequency 5G waves are far below the threshold for anything that would cause us harm.

5G to usher in enterprise AR boom

Article | June 28, 2021

There is great potential for 5G to usher in significant near-term business impacts in the enterprise, and augmented reality (AR) applications will be the poster child that demonstrates the value of 5G. The sprawling footprints of industrial organizations are tailor-made for 5G. High-speed wireless data coverage will be available throughout dispersed industrial environments which simply can't be served via Wi-Fi alone. 5G cellular connectivity for field-based uses, including AR platforms that help frontline workers keep complex machinery in good working order, will be rapidly adopted. There are also many enterprises that have not deployed wireless infrastructure for cost or security reasons. The recent adoption of mobile digital tools by frontline workers to perform daily tasks and remote guidance makes 5G a valuable investment for these organizations. In many instances, 5G may be easier to deploy while delivering more functionality and higher security than Wi-Fi alone.
