Why Traditional MPLS Networks are Ill-Suited for UCaaS

| November 26, 2018

Like UC, UCaaS improves team collaboration by packaging calling, meetings, team collaboration into a seamless experience. But while UC brings the cost and complexity of hosting and maintaining server infrastructure in the enterprise datacenters, UCaaS avoids those problems, putting UC in the cloud. Organizations gain the flexibility, easy adoption, predictable costs, and quick access to emerging features that are first, and in many cases, only available via the cloud.

Accelerating the Evaluation and Deployment of uCPE-Based SD-WAN Solutions

Article | February 28, 2020

Unless you’ve been living on an Internet-free desert island for the past couple of years, it’s been hard to escape all the industry hype around Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN). While the business benefits of adopting SD-WAN are significant, there’s no denying the fact that evaluating and then deploying potential solutions is hard: typically, the solutions that deliver the best Return on Investment (ROI) involve products from multiple vendors, leading to complex integration and testing. A recently-announced software evaluation kit addresses these challenges, providing a pre-integrated open-source SD-WAN solution that runs on multiple white-box hardware platforms, all ready for a quick, efficient start to putting together a multi-vendor SD-WAN deployment.

CSP network infrastructure spend expected to see recovery in 2021

Article | February 28, 2020

The total network infrastructure spend is expected to grow in 2021 as we start to see further recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Dynamics related to COVID-19 has spurred increased bandwidth consumption and as a result accelerated the need to provide additional capacity to meet those needs. We expect total network infrastructure spends to trend positively in 2021. As we have previously seen in 2020, CSPs were more cautious in the face of pandemic related challenges and uncertainty. The impact was felt more in the transport and core areas of the network, with operators still spending on access to meet immediate end-user needs. However, as early signs of recovery are more apparent, we expect investment on CAPEX to be in focus again.

5G Is Safe for Human Health, International Watchdog Says

Article | February 28, 2020

The International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), a German-based scientific organization that determines the impact of electromagnetic waves on people and the environment, said March 11 that there is no evidence that 5G networks pose a health risk to humans, The Financial Times reported. The reassurance came as the body did update its guidelines for millimeter-wave 5G, the highest frequency version of 5G which is in use in the U.S. but has not yet made it to Europe, The Guardian reported. However, actually millimeter-wave 5G frequencies are usually far below the new maximum set by the standard. "We know parts of the community are concerned about the safety of 5G and we hope the updated guidelines will help put people at ease," ICNIRP Chairman Dr. Eric van Rongen said in a media release.

Five ways to win at antenna integration

Article | February 28, 2020

Antennas are fundamental to the performance of connected devices, but are often implemented as an afterthought, resulting not only in sub-optimal performance, but also in less-than-ideal form factor. It can also have a negative impact on cost for the device as a whole. It is therefore essential that organisations prioritise antenna design as part of a holistic device design philosophy – bear in mind that it is practically impossible to fix bad antenna design. Early decisions need to be made regarding the relative merits of embedded or external devices and then attention can turn to optimising antenna integration.
