Managing your network from the cloud could simplify your network environment and reduce costs. A Cloud-Managed Network (CMN) uses a SaaS model to securely provide ease of use and simplicity for control of on-premise network devices, such as wireless access points and switches. For very large districts, an on-premise solution may be best.

Cisco issues urgent fixes for SD-WAN router flaws

Article | March 23, 2020

Cisco has patched a clutch of high-priority vulnerabilities in its SD-WAN routers and their management software that admins will want to apply as soon as possible. SD-WAN is a technology that allows large companies to manage different types of Wide Area Network (WAN) communications links such as carrier MPLS, conventional broadband, and mobile 4G as a single virtual entity. Making SD-WAN work requires specific routers that support it, spread out across the WAN, as well as management software to interact with this infrastructure. It is this software that is vulnerable. There are five CVEs in total, three of which are rated high, including one, CVE-2020-3266, given a CVSS severity score of 7.8. The latter is a privilege escalation vulnerability in the SD-WAN management software used with a range of Cisco routers, including the vEdge 100 Series, 1000 Series, 2000 Series, 5000 Series, and Cloud Router.

4 ways 5G will change your enterprise threat model

Article | March 23, 2020

With 5G poised to become widely available across the globe, enterprise organizations need to seriously consider the security implications of deploying the technology. Over the next few years, 5G networks are expected to play a central role in enabling new digital transformation initiatives and in supporting new business use cases that are beyond the reach of current 4G-network technology. Driving much of that change will be 5G’s speeds of up to 1Gbps, its 1-millisecond latencies, and its support for up to about 100 times more connected devices per unit area compared to 4G.

How 5G Mobile Networks Will Change IoT Security

Article | March 23, 2020

This technology claims to provide more efficient interconnectivity, and faster data transfers between people, objects and devices. All good things, right? But what security risks does 5G represent for the modern age? Some cybersecurity experts suggest that new vulnerabilities are versions of problems not entirely flushed out from 4G and even 3G networks. This article will attempt to explore some problems and opportunities that IoT security experts need to be aware of, and how savvy enterprises can be proactive about security in the age of 5G.

5G Is Safe for Human Health, International Watchdog Says

Article | March 23, 2020

The International Commission on Non‐Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP), a German-based scientific organization that determines the impact of electromagnetic waves on people and the environment, said March 11 that there is no evidence that 5G networks pose a health risk to humans, The Financial Times reported. The reassurance came as the body did update its guidelines for millimeter-wave 5G, the highest frequency version of 5G which is in use in the U.S. but has not yet made it to Europe, The Guardian reported. However, actually millimeter-wave 5G frequencies are usually far below the new maximum set by the standard. "We know parts of the community are concerned about the safety of 5G and we hope the updated guidelines will help put people at ease," ICNIRP Chairman Dr. Eric van Rongen said in a media release.
