Across many industries, we are currently experiencing the creation of intelligent machines that is using AI to simulate smart behavior.

MEDIA 7:  From NASA to Qualcomm, your work experience spans across highly complex matrix organizations. What do you believe is the driving force behind your proven track records and achievements?
VINESH SUKUMAR:
Honestly, all the credit goes to some good mentors that I have had over the years who constantly coached me to be adaptable and a lifelong student. Also, I have been lucky to be part of some great teams who always put team success as a higher priority than individual accomplishments. This definitely educated me on how to work across complex organizations and get the best from everyone around you.

M7: How is Qualcomm redefining the customer experience for its modern users with the help of AI?
VS:
Qualcomm is putting a lot of investment and research into understanding key user experience-related challenges across productivity, gaming, enterprise, driver monitoring, and many such segments. Through this investment, our goal is not only to use AI to improve on these key experience indicators (KEI’s) but also personalize this experience to every user – this I believe lays the foundation for the future of modern users.

VS:
It is unfortunate that, the pandemic has played a huge part in fluctuating demand leading to semiconductor shortages. Restoring this supply and demand balance will take time as the manufacturers don’t have the capacity to meet the desired demand cycles. I anticipate we should be seeing a lot of improvements in 2022.

M7: You have over 20 years of industry experience spread across various domains. What do you read, and how do you consume information to stay at the top of your game?
VS:
I usually try to read a variety of books to provide me with the opportunity to think outside the box and continue to polish my behavioral skills. Some recent books are – Atomic Habits by James Clear, Inspired by Marty Cagan, etc. On the technical side, I tend to force myself to attend AI seminars or conferences and listen to many talks from some of the industry luminaries which has proven to be quite insightful on how the industry is progressing and driving innovation.

Media 7 | April 9, 2020

Daria Naidenov is a Senior Digital Designer at T-Mobile where she helps push the creative envelope through social, web, and digital branded experiences. Previously she worked with a variety of start-ups and SaaS companies to create and execute design strategies to move each individual company’s brand identity forward. Daria received her Bachelor of Arts in Digital Technology and Culture from Washington State University. She enjoys exploring the intersection of art and technology, where creative conceptual ideas develop into compelling digital solutions. Deck 7: Can you tell us a little about your career journey? What inspired you to pursue your current role at T-Mobile? DARIA NAIDENOV: I’ve always had an interest in human psychology, specifically understanding the social and cultural impacts on our personal decisions, and vice versa. This fascination along with my passion for art that creates impact, led me to design. This space allowed me to collaborate with various other fields to create clear and beautiful communication. I began my journey in a more traditional area of design which included graphic design, print, and advertising. A lot of my work was involved with marketing for non-profits and educational institutions. I enjoyed meeting people where they are and creating relevant and sophisticated messaging for them. My skillset ultimately led me to work with startups, SaaS, and tech companies where design thinking takes a whole new medium. I transitioned into the space of web, social, and app design. Now more than ever, empathy and understanding of human communication became more impactful. I encountered the growing digital creative team at T-Mobile when I first moved to Seattle. It wasn’t a large team, but it had energy. The “no-bullshit, put your ego aside and let’s make something beautiful happen” attitude is what drew me in. Our team has almost doubled in size since I joined and with the new acquisition of Sprint, it is forecasted to at least double again. With the introduction of 5g, it’s an exciting time to be with T-Mobile to educate and inspire the public about our united future. D7: How do you organize your mobile team, and what design methodology do you follow? DN: Our team is made up of writers and designers, working together as partners. There are levels of leadership and seniority, just like in other departments. Zoom in and you will see the vastness of skill and expertise of each individual contributor. Under the title of “digital designer”, you will find coders, illustrators, product photographers, visionaries, strategists and more. We combine our skills and collaborate to create experiences that not only meet business needs and customer expectations, but push the cultural envelope of design forward. And it’s pretty damn fun!  ...

Iridium Unveils Project Stardust; Developing the Only Truly Global, Standards-Based IoT and Direct-to-Device Service

PR Newswire | January 12, 2024

Iridium Communications Inc., a leading provider of global voice and data satellite communications, today announced Project Stardust, the evolution of its direct-to-device (D2D) strategy with 3GPP 5G standards-based Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) Non-Terrestrial Network (NB-NTN) service development. As a new standards-based solution, it will be deployed on Iridium's existing satellite network giving the company a unique ability to offer both high-quality proprietary and standardized D2D and IoT services to its customers. The early stages of programming Iridium's low-Earth orbiting (LEO) satellites offers a special opportunity to smartphone companies, OEMs, chipmakers, mobile network operators (MNO) and related IoT developers to have their requirements woven into the fabric of the Iridium® network. Iridium is already collaborating directly with several of these companies. "This is an exciting moment for Iridium and is a testament to the flexibility and capability built into our satellite constellation," said Iridium CEO Matt Desch. "The industry is moving quickly towards a more standards-based approach, and after surveying the field, we found that we're the best positioned to lead the way using our own network, particularly given our true global coverage." Iridium is designing its initial NB-IoT offering to support 5G NTN messaging and SOS capabilities for smartphones, tablets, cars, and related consumer applications. Adopting the service will enable device manufacturers to add a satellite connection to standardized devices, take advantage of existing, globally allocated and coordinated Iridium spectrum, and provide a superior low-latency LEO user experience. The Iridium network supports approximately 1,300 SOS and emergency (911 or equivalent) incidents per year, around the world and has readily available systems, processes, and partners to implement this capability for new devices. Iridium understands the market need for its customers to develop and certify products quickly. Applying our established onboarding processes, chipmakers and NB-IoT developers can join Iridium's ecosystem of about 500 partners, and choose a proprietary, standards-based, or dual-solution integration approach for added network redundancy. MNOs will have the opportunity to be a one-stop shop for ubiquitous coverage and off-grid use cases, with unmatched industry reliability. Iridium partners are supported by a 24/7 customer support, back office, billing, and provisioning system, all ready to support the new service upon launch. The Iridium satellite constellation's fully crosslinked, LEO architecture and global L-band spectrum provides a competitive service advantage versus other LEO and geostationary satellite networks. Certified to provide safety of life services by international regulatory bodies, the Iridium network has become the gold standard of reliability and continues to be the only network that provides connectivity everywhere on Earth.
